Delivering Showsec’s Largest Ever Single-Day Deployment
Showsec played a key role in the London stage of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ, helping deliver one of the largest free-to-attend sporting events ever hosted in the UK.
The route ran from Cambridge to The Mall in London, passing through landmarks including the Olympic Park, Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge and Westminster. An estimated 600,000 spectators lined the route across the capital, creating a unique crowd management challenge along miles of open public roads.
To support the event, Showsec deployed more than 3,250 stewards and security personnel, making it the largest single-day deployment in the company’s history.
Our teams worked across the route and finish area, managing crowd safety, maintaining the race route, overseeing pedestrian crossings and supporting the safe movement of spectators at key locations throughout the city.
Working alongside event organisers, police and local authorities, Showsec helped deliver a safe and successful event despite unprecedented crowd numbers and the challenges that come with managing a live sporting event across a busy city centre.
