Since 2018, Showsec has provided security and stewarding services for the London New Year’s Eve Fireworks, helping manage one of the largest public events in the UK.

Each year, almost 90,000 ticket holders gather along the Thames to watch the fireworks display, while many more head into central London to celebrate. Operating in the heart of the capital brings a unique set of challenges, particularly around crowd movement, access control and keeping event areas within capacity.

Showsec is involved from the planning stages, working with organisers, local authorities and emergency services ahead of the event. On the night, we deploy more than 1,000 stewards and security personnel across the event footprint.

Our teams manage access points, search operations, road closures, crowd movements, perimeter security, mobile response teams and customer support areas. A key part of the operation is controlling access to the ticketed viewing areas while safely managing the large numbers of people moving through central London.

With thousands of people spread across a large area, clear communication and strong supervision are essential. Showsec managers work directly from the event control room alongside organisers and partner agencies, helping coordinate the operation as conditions change throughout the evening.
