Summer of Leeds

17 September 2019

Leeds is a city full of different cultures, interests and activities in which Showsec are extremely proud to be working with clients across the city and surroundings year after year.

This year the city hosted an array of events spanning sports, music, conferences and much more and the vast number of events saw Showsec deploy high numbers of staff to keep event goers safe.

In a summer full of sports, this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup travelled to many cities nationwide including Leeds where the Fan Zone was hosted by Leeds City Council. Our staff successfully kept these areas safe and family friendly whilst the nation watched England win the Cricket World Cup.

The Tour de Yorkshire took place in early May and Showsec were positioned around the event route in the city centre from start to finish. Showsec are very proud to have been a part of the annual event since its inception in 2015 and with the popularity hopefully many more to come.

With Showsec being pivotal to numerous events throughout Leeds, staff were being deployed nearly every day during the summer period. Area Manager for Leeds, Sam Hodkin, said “It’s been an exciting year for the business and a very busy summer.

“We’ve turned our hands to a variety of events; indoor events, carnivals and sporting events.

“It has been an intensely busy period but very rewarding and staff have been able to experience different types of events they can work.”

Of course, in the summer it’s not just sports events that are major, music festivals and concerts are extremely popular this time of year with Slam Dunk festival, Ed Sheeran at Roundhay Park and Rod Stewart at York Racecourse where Showsec deployed around 400 staff to manage the safety of 30,000 people.

Sam Hodkin added “A big thank you to all the staff who have been committed to events in Leeds, not only just Leeds staff but also to those who have been sourced from outside of the area as well.”
