Socially Distanced Triathlon Success for Showsec

12 October 2020

LimeLight Sports Group partnered with event security and crowd management specialists Showsec for the 2020 Blenheim Palace Triathlon.

Set in the stunning grounds of UNESCO World Heritage Site the triathlon was originally due to take place in May but was postponed to the 12th and 13th September due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Showsec were involved through the planning stages to ensure the innovative sporting event took place with safety the utmost priority and provided event security including access control and guarding bikes, compliance regarding distancing, and held key stewarding positions to direct participants and keep people moving.

Normally thousands of triathletes and spectators would attend, but this year the capacity was reduced to ensure social distancing, and many Covid related processes were put in place including additional cleaning and sanitisation, health questionnaires and temperature checks for triathletes, staggered start times and changes to reduce contact with staff.

With it being one of the first major triathlons of the year participants were reassured by the measures in place to ensure government guidelines were met and provided great feedback.

Andrew Edwards, Showsec Area Manager commented: “It has been a privilege to work with LimeLight Sports for this event.  We have working hard to adapt to the current challenges to make events happen, and an incredible amount of work behind the scenes took place to allow the event to take place in a safe and enjoyable way for everyone involved. LimeLight are a force to be reckoned with in the sporting world and their confidence and vision are inspiring. We look forward to supporting their future events.”
