Showsec in Pole Position at Silverstone
This summer has seen Showsec offering its security and crowd management services to a number of motorsport events at Silverstone. This comes as part of a four-year contract Showsec has signed with the historic race course.
It has been a busy and action-packed summer so far, with Showsec delivering security to a wide variety of events including Jap Fest, Ford Fair, Speed Machine, Silverstone Classic, Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, Silverstone 500 and Formula Student. Showsec staff have worked alongside Silverstone’s own security staff, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
By far, the biggest event Showsec has facilitated this summer at Silverstone is the British Grand Prix on 8th July. The iconic event in British racing is one of the biggest in the country and drew an audience of 175,000 people. It is also one of the most media-heavy events that Showsec are involved with. With a total of 340 staff working 1323 shifts for 16155 hours, staff were brought in from the event from areas as far away as Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and Newcastle.
Showsec also provides security at Silverstone for several other events that run through to the autumn. These include the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Moto GP in August, the British Touring Cars Championship and the Bennetts British Superbike Championships in September, as well as the TRAX events in October.
As Mike Poole, Area Manager for Midlands West and the person in charge of Showsec operations at Silverstone explains, “We are proud to have assisted Silverstone in the delivery of some of the biggest motorsports events in the UK. We have worked very closely with the client, F1 Management and DORNA (the organisers of MotoGP) to ensure that rigorously high standards have been maintained. The communication between the venue and staff on the ground has been excellent, helping us to facilitate a smooth and comprehensive security service.”
Showsec looks forward to delivering more events at Silverstone and continuing to be at the very heart of British motorsport.
