Showsec at O2 Apollo Manchester – 18 Months On

The O2 Apollo Manchester is one of Manchester most iconic venues, housed in a Grade II listed building which dates back to 1938 and has a capacity of 3,500 for standing events.

Showsec won the contract to provide security and stewarding services for the venue in April 2018, and to ensure high standards of safety for clients and customers when Showsec took over the venue, changes were made to the security operation that was previously in place at the venue.

Manchester Operations Executive Sufyan Bohra and joint Head of Security for the venue said, “The transition period went smoothly.

“It felt like we had been at the venue for a long time because of the support gained from existing staff and management at the Apollo.”

The venue holds a wide variety of events, ranging from music events, comedy, cultural and many more; no week in the venue is the same.

The venue attracts different types artists and celebrities with people such as David Blaine, Gladys Knight, Jack Savoretti and Hozier performing there this year. Over the years the stage has hosted many legendary artists including Queen, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.

Showsec can deploy anywhere up to 40 staff on event days including management and supervisors depending on the event specification.

Christopher Banks, Area Manager for Greater Manchester, added: “There has been an exceptional amount of hard work that has gone in to the security services at the venue.

“Nearly 30 of the previous Apollo staff transitioned over to join Showsec, some of which have taken advantage of Showsec’s training and progression pathways to progress to Supervisors.

“A satisfying result of this takeover is seeing these staff flourishing and taking advantage of Showsec’s commitment to learning and development”.
