Extension to Leeds University Union Contract

18 July 2019

Since January 2017, Showsec have been providing crowd management and event security for Leeds University Union and we’re delighted to share that an additional two-year deal has been signed.

The contract sees the Showsec team facilitate the University Union’s multi-purpose entertainment venues including; Stylus, Pulse and Pyramid, which feature gigs and club nights, as well as their on-site pub, the Old Bar.

Formed of 34,000 members, Leeds University Union known to many as LUU, are committed to making sure that students love their time in the city, and so are Showsec. Holding the knowledge and skills to ensure both an exciting and safe student experience at the venues.

With a bustling schedule for students to enjoy all year round with Fruity club night every Friday, LUU offers a wide range of events to keep students entertained from the beginning of their experience at Freshers, right through to the annual Leeds Ball each June. The ball celebrates 5,500 students’ graduation across the campus with a variety of music, entertainment and bars, with the most famous night in the University calendar requiring 120 members of Showsec staff.

Taking place across four stages, one-day heavy metal music festival, Damnation Festival, is also held annually at the University of Leeds. Showsec’s dedication to fully staffing every event and their experience in the live music industry has been highly praised by the union.

Showsec’s Dan Hendrickson has been working with the venue to help create a safe event environment since 2017. Completing Showsec’s bespoke Management Development Programme in 2018, Dan progressed to Operations Executive and Account Handler for Leeds University Union and says “Working with Leeds University Union allows the Showsec team to offer security operations at a wide range of music and entertainment events all year round.

“We have up to 32 SIA staff members working Fruity club nights every week and we look after up to 1,200 visitors for sold out gigs.

“I look forward to project managing security as we continue to strengthen our relationship with the venue. Whether it’s regular club night, or a touring gig – it’s always great to be a part of.”

Showsec’s Area Manager, Sam Hodkin says “I am delighted that Leeds University have signed up for another two years with Showsec.

“The venue provides sustainable employment opportunities for our workforce, as well working as working opportunities for the university’s students. We look forward to developing the service that we offer with Leeds University Union.”
