Collaboration in Action: Showsec Delivers Bespoke Training in Bangkok

27 May 2025

Bangkok March 2025 – At Showsec, we’re proud to deliver high-quality crowd management and security services, and just as important to us is the work we do behind the scenes to share knowledge and build capacity with our partners around the world. Our recent training visit to Bangkok, Thailand, is a great example of international collaboration in action.

Working alongside Live Nation Global Security and Live Nation Tero, Showsec was invited to help enhance the skills of event security teams supporting some of the region’s most high-profile shows. The goal was to support an already dedicated workforce with additional tools, techniques and confidence, all tailored to the Thai live event environment.

A Shared Commitment to Safety

This training programme was developed in close consultation with Live Nation Tero and followed two major events in the Thai capital, Green Day at Impact Arena and Seventeen at the Thai National Stadium. These shows gave us valuable context to understand how best to shape the training and where we could offer useful insight.

“The focus was on refining access protocols, strengthening supervisory principles and enhancing the customer and artist experience across the board,” said Curtis Harding, Showsec’s Training Manager.
“Despite a tight turnaround, the team developed a programme that was immersive, interactive and practical, with scenarios that felt directly relevant to the teams we were working with. We weren’t there to dictate, but to share ideas and learn from each other.”

Delivered over two days, the training included group tasks, role play, practical exercises and discussions, all supported by translated materials and a brilliant on-site interpreter to ensure full clarity and participation.

Leadership Support and a Long-Term Vision

The initiative was supported at the highest level of Showsec, with Co-CEO Simon Battersby joining the team in Bangkok.

“This was a proud moment for us,” said Simon. “It gave our team the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with professionals who are passionate about event safety and eager to exchange ideas. The professionalism, hospitality and insight of our Thai colleagues was truly impressive, and we look forward to building on this foundation in the future.”

Learning Through Connection

For Assistant Regional Manager Kayley Grieves, the highlight of the trip was the warmth and openness of the people she met.

“Everyone was so welcoming and enthusiastic. It’s never easy walking into a different organisation with suggestions or new practices, but the team in Bangkok were incredibly receptive. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their own perspectives and really engaged with the training from start to finish.”

What stood out to both Kayley and Curtis was the calm, respectful energy of the audiences at both Green Day and Seventeen, even during large-scale events.

“The approach to crowd behaviour was different to what we’re used to in the UK,” said Curtis. “That gave us space to explore some ‘what if’ scenarios, and one delegate even sketched out his own barrier configuration after a video case study. It was a great moment, seeing how keen they were to problem-solve and reflect.”

Culture, Contrast and Collaboration

“Bangkok is vibrant, busy and full of contrasts, from soaring skyscrapers to bustling street markets,” said Curtis. “We stayed away from the tourist areas, so got a genuine look at daily life. The support from our Live Nation hosts was second to none, and while I did brave the local food, I might have underestimated the spice!”

“I’d never been to Bangkok before,” added Kayley. “It was such a privilege to be there with Showsec, experiencing a new culture and seeing how event operations work in a different context. The conversations we had, both formal and informal, made this one of the most rewarding work trips I’ve had.”

Celebrating Achievement

Each participant received a certificate of completion at the end of the course, a well-earned milestone marked with photos, smiles and a genuine sense of pride.

“By day two, we’d really built a rapport,” said Curtis. “There were some great personalities in the group, people I’ll remember for a long time.”

The project was the result of five weeks of careful planning and teamwork, supported by a dedicated team including Chris Werrell, Mark Norbury, Adam Mitchell, Ash Burkin, Michalina Pytlak, Richard Church, Siripreeya Nutkumhang and others, all of whom played a key part in making the training a success.

Looking Ahead: A Foundation for Growth

This training in Bangkok marked the start of what we hope will be a long and positive partnership with Live Nation Tero. Plans are already being discussed for further sessions in Thailand and beyond.

“Every opportunity to collaborate like this strengthens the global standard of event safety,” said Curtis. “Different cultures bring different strengths, and when we share knowledge, adapt approaches and build trust, everyone benefits.”

As Showsec continues to support the development of event security across international markets, we’re proud of the connections we’re building and the shared vision we’re helping to realise: safer, smarter and more successful events for everyone.
